The second part of our comic:

Newspaper activity

We have discovered that there are differents kinds of newspapers in The United Kingdom like National newspapers, UK Daily newspaper, tabloids, Scottish daily newspapers, regional newspaper, local newspaper, specialist newspaper and restricted circulation newspapers.

There are differences between the newspapers for example the size (broadsheets are big while tabloids are smaller)Newspapers can be presented in broadsheet, tabloid or Berliner size.

About newspapers types, we can speak about the yellow press that is a type of journalism that looks for the readers' reactions, either anger, horror or laugh.

Now we are going to talk about two different newspapers: The Guardian and The Sun
The Guardian is a broadsheet daily newspaper. It was founded in Manchester on 1821 and the creators were unknown. It costs 90p during the week, on Saturdays it costs £1.70 and it includes film, sports, culture, economic suplements, etc.

The Sun is a daily newspaper available Monday to Saturday except on Christmas Day.
Its first publication was on the 15 September 1964 and the name comes from the acronim Student University News. The Sun is known for its news that are gossip and sensationalist. Its headlines are offensive and witty. The Sun is also known because they often invent stories and the headlines can be vulgar.

Saint George Day in Catalonia

On the 23th of April we celebrate Saint George Day. But who was Saint George? What did he do on the 23th of April? How do we celebrate it? And how do other countries celebrate it?

Saint George was the Guard of Emperor Diocletian and was Christian. On the 23th of April he died because of his religious thoughts. It was a time when Christians were prosecuted and executed. The traditional legend says that Saint George killed a dragon to save a village and its princess.
In Catalonia, we celebrate Saint George Day in a special way: boys buy roses for the girls they love because the legend says that when Saint George killed the dragon, the blood of the dragon turned into a rose. Girls buy books for the boys they love, because the 23rd of Arpril is the day when Shakespeare and Cervantes died.
Saint George Day is not only celebrated in Catalonia. Saint George is also England’s Patron Saint. Although it is not celebrated, just in a few places where they play old sports, they act as in the middle age and they eat traditional food.

In other parts of the world there are different celebrations: people go to church, to processions, prepare traditional food (roast lamb in Bulgaria) and sing and dance folk music as in Serbia.

Saint George was a very important person because he became an important religious figure (he was considered the defender of the Christian faith) in many countries around the world.
